"The Function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education." Dr.MLK Jr. As I mature, the lens in which I view the world has developed. This quote resonates with me as I am made more aware of true learning. The act of thinking develops as we age. The more we learn the more we are able to rationalize and contribute reasonable thoughts that can be beneficial to me as well as to the community locally and globally. The University of Louisville will help me further my thinking and character.
First my educational experience at the University of Louisville will contribute to my personal development. In order to reach my hopes and dreams, I must gain more knowledge and build upon my education. Being able to go to U of L will help build my character. One way is gaining more compassion, understanding and discipline through different types of medical study abroad trips such as the trip to Belize and Croatia and also being able to go to Spain and shadow doctors there gaining hands on experience.
Along with building my character and gaining more knowledge, furthering my education at UofL will help with me in the local community. My experience will equip me with the knowledge to face different situations that arise around me. Knowing that attending U of L with its diverse campus helps me in knowing how to deal and react to people of different backgrounds, age groups, and different cultures. It will also help develop my passion for helping people. For example, after I leave U of L with my degree and become a doctor I want to be able to share the experiences I learn knowing that I've had the experiences because I attend the U of L.
Seeing the world, in essence my world as my global community is something I am the most excited about. I hope to take the experiences I hope to gain from U of L with me all around the globe. This will help me fulfill one of my dreams which is building a clinic and nursing school in Haiti. This is particularly important because my parents were born there.
"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education." Dr. MLK Jr. I want the knowledge that I will gain at U of L not to only help me but to help others and uplift them every day of my life. I want the different character traits that I will gain and evolve into to reflect the time that I spent at U of L. That will help shape me into the person I want to be.
